Asia Oceania Association for the Study of Obesity (AOASO)
Welcome address to AOCO from Professor Brian Oldfield, President AOASO
On behalf of the Asia Oceania Association for the Study of Obesity (AOASO) I would like to welcome participants to the Asia Oceania Conference on Obesity (AOCO), 2019 which will be held in conjunction with ICOMES in Seoul, August 29-31, 2019.
Asia Pacific and Oceania now represents 60% of the world population and from every perspective is growing in impact on the world stage. Obesity research is no exception as evidenced by enthusiastic participation in recent ICOMES meetings which have featured "world best" presenters from the region and from the rest of the world. AOASO and its AOCO Congress are endeavouring to expand their presence in the global obesity research community and to strengthen their role as one of the quadrants of the World Obesity Federation (WOF). In keeping with this we need to support regional efforts in obesity research to create productive and energetic interactions not only within Asia - Oceania but with the rest of the research world.
I look forward to enjoying the meeting with you in Seoul where an excellent program and outstanding hospitality from the host organisations will help to ensure that we make great strides toward meeting these goals.
